“I let God down.” I’ve heard this, and even said this myself, before from people all around me. “Why would God forgive me? I let Him down.” STOP THIS NOW.
I think this is completely wrong. When we say this we are basically saying that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross wasn’t enough and that I have to do something for my own salvation to work. That God’s love is somehow conditional on how good or bad we are.
Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, would deny Jesus three times. If anyone would have felt unworthy of God’s love it would have been Peter. In Luke 24 Jesus comes back and reinstates Peter to do His work. See we don’t hold God up, so we can’t let Him down. God holds us up in his hand. We never can let God down, because we were never holding Him up. And God…God will never let you down. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is our foundation which won’t be shaken.
So next time you think that you let God down, remember that you were never holding Him up.
